Hertta Kiiski stages encounters between people, animals, and things in projects about e.g. materiality and human-nonhuman relationships where the process is equally important to the end result. She works with photography, moving image, objects, space and oftentimes with her daughters. She holds an MFA from Finnish Academy of Fine Arts and BA in Photography from Turku Arts Academy. Beside arts, she has also studied e.g. Art history, Latin and Roman Literature.
Her works have been shown in several museums and galleries both in Finland and abroad, most recently in SIC and Hippolyte in Helsinki. Kiiski has published two books in collaboration with a German publishing house Kehrer Verlag: Archive Play (together with Niina Vatanen) in 2014 and I was an apple and I got peeled – but it was a good thing in 2016. Her works are included in public collections, such as the Finnish Museum of Photography and the Finnish State Art Collection, and in various private collections.
