Artist / Lecturer
Frank Brummel is an artist and educator with a background as a craftsman. Born in Germany he now lives and works in Turku. Frank carves texts and ornaments out of stone-slabs. In this way, he is a descendent of an old tradition of storytelling and history writing by stone carving. Frank's works circle around topics such as the continuous shifting semantic levels of facts and items, or the topic of boyhood and education. His works have been shown in art venues nationally and internationally.
Frank holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki, graduated as Meisterschüler of sculpture from the Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg, completed a professional apprenticeship as stonemason and has studied pedagogy at the Faculty of Education at the University of Turku, Finland. Since the year 2014 Frank teaches as lecturer at the sculpture department of the Academy of Fine Arts, University of The Arts Helsinki.
